Ishan Kishan, the
most expensive buy in the IPL 2022 mega auction at Rs 15.25 crore, is going through a lean patch.
Playing for five-time champions, Mumbai Indians, the left-handed batter has not
been able to make any impact. The constant failures made him frustrated too.

In the game against
Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday, Ishan Kishan vented his anger on the boundary
rope after being bowled over by Marcus Stoinis on a personal score of 13.

It was a rather
blunt delivery that Ishan looked to push and get a single. But he instead ended
up dragging it back onto his stumps. Visibly, he was unhappy with the dismissal
and vented his frustration while walking back to the dugout. The southpaw
smashed the bat on the boundary rope that has sponsors printed on it. His act
is likely to draw him a hefty fine as it is considered a breach of the players’ code of
conduct.

Put to bat first,
LSG scored 199 for 4 in 20 overs after captain KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 103
off 60 balls. Chasing the mammoth target, MI needed a good start but they lost
their opener and skipper Rohit Sharma early yet again to a vicious delivery of
Avesh Khan. This is when Ishan Kishan was expected to take charge of the
innings. But the left-handed batter struggled during his brief stay in the
middle. He crawled his way to 13 off 17 deliveries before getting out to Marcus
Stoinis in the 7th over of the innings.

Barring 81 not out
and 54 in the first two matches against Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals,
Ishan Kishan failed to make any contributions to the MI side, which is placed
10th on the points table with six defeats in six matches. His last four scores
read – 14, 26, 3 and 13. This showed that something is wrong with the youngster
and Mumbai Indians will be hoping that he returns to his best sooner rather
than later.

Kishan has so far
scored 191 runs in six innings at an average of 38.20 and a strike rate of
117.17. These numbers look decent but his last four outings haven’t been up to
the mark.
