IPL 2022: Gujarat Titans beat Lucknow Super Giants in a thriller

Another thrilling run chase. The Gujarat Titans on Monday recorded their first win in the IPL after they chased down Lucknow Super Giants 159-run target with two balls to spare. It was Rahul Tewatia and debutant Abhinav Manohar who sealed the game for Hardik Pandya and company at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

Chasing 159 runs, Gujarat were troubled by Dushmantha Chameera’s fiery spell at the top. They were reduced to  15/2. However, Hardik Pandya and Matthew Wade then put up a half-century stand before the former was dismissed by his brother Krunal. The Gujarat Titans skipper scored 33 runs in 28 balls with the help of five boundaries and one six. Wade, who opened for the Titans, made 30 runs in 29 deliveries.

The Super Giants were doing well in the middle overs. Their spinners – Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi and Deepak Hooda – had kept the proceedings tight for the Titans. 

It was the 16th over when Tewatia cut loose. Miller joined in, before Manohar came on to play a quickfire 15 off seven balls. 

Rahul Tewatia scored 40 runs in 24 balls and David Miller made 30 in 21.

For Lucknow, Chameera got two wickets while Pandya, Hooda and Avesh Khan finished with one each. 

In the first innings, Mohammed Shami rocked Gujarat’s top-order, reducing them to 29/4 before Deepak Hooda (55 off 41 balls) and Ayush Badoni (54 off 41 balls) smashed fifties to help their team post 158 for six.

Shami picked three wickets for 25 runs. 

Apart from Shami’s three, Varun Aaron picked two wickets (2/45) while Rashid Khan (1/27) accounted for one batsman for the Titans.

Brief Scores: Lucknow Super Giants 158 for 6 in 20 overs (Deepak Hooda 55, Ayush Badoni 54; Mohammed Shami 3/25).

Gujarat Titans 161 for 5 in 19.4 overs (Rahul Tewatia 40 not out, Hardik Pandya 33; Dushmantha Chameera 2/22).
