The Lucknow Super Giants secured a two-run win over the Kolkata Knight Riders at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on Wednesday. With the loss, Shreyas Iyer and co were knocked out of IPL 2022 as KL Rahul’s men secured a playoff berth.
The match came down to the last over. KKR needed 21 runs in six balls. Rinku Singh smashed Marcus Stoinis for one boundary and two maximums in the first three deliveries. The equation was down to 5 runs needed in three balls. The batter took two on the fourth ball before a screamer from Evin Lewis saw him depart after scoring 40 runs in 15 balls.
Kolkata now needed three off the last ball. Bowling to Umesh Yadav, Stoinis got the yorker spot and knocked down the stumps. LSG won the thriller.

After the win, LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir, who had led KKR to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014, seemed pumped. The former India opener jumped out of his chair and hugged his teammates.

In the first innings, LSG opener Quinton de Kock played a masterful 140 off 70 balls. Skipper KL Rahul slammed 68 off 51 as the pair shared the IPL’s highest ever opening wicket stand – 210 runs.
“I was a little bit cooked, but I had to get out there and get on with the job,” de Kock said after hitting 10 sixes and 10 fours in his superb innings.

The victory sealed Lucknow’s place in the playoffs with 18 points while Kolkata went out of the tournament with 12 points from its 14 league games.
In reply KKR could manage 208 runs. Shreyas Iyer top-scored for them with 50 runs. Nitish Rana made 42 and Rinku Singh 40.
