Jalalabad (Punjab) assembly election 2022: Date, result, candidates’ list and latest news

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Jagdeep Kamboj has won the Jalalabad assembly constituency by defeating Shiromani Akali Dal’s CM face Sukhbir Singh Badal by a margin of 25,477 votes.

Jalalabad assembly constituency has Sukhbir Singh Badal of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) taking on Mohan Singh of the Indian National Congress (INC), Purun Chandra of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jagdeep Kamboj of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) this year in the Punjab assembly elections.

Raminder Singh Awla of the Indian National Congress had won the Jalalabad seat in 2019. Awla had beaten his closest rival Raj Singh by over 16,633 votes. Raj Singh had contested that election on a SAD ticket.

In 2012, the seat was won by Sukhbir Singh Badal of the SAD.

Jalalabad falls under the Fazilka district and the Firozpur Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of nine assembly seats. 

Sukhbir Singh Badal of the SAD represented Firozpur as a member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Badal defeated Sher Singh Ghubaya from the INC with a margin of  1,98,850 votes.

The Jalalabad assembly constituency will vote in a single phase of the Punjab elections on February 20, 2022, along with 116 other constituencies.  

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including Uttarakhand.
