In the second Ashes Test at the Adelaide
Oval, Australia got off to a slow start and lost one early wicket against
England. In the day-night pink-ball Test, Stuart Broad picked up an early
wicket as he returned to the England XI after missing the first Test in
Brisbane. Broad bowled a short delivery and Australia opener Marcus Harris hit
the ball to fine leg area but England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler put up an
extraordinary effort to dismiss the opener early. Buttler dived to his right
side and ended up taking a brilliant one-handed catch behind the stumps.

In the second Test, both Broad and James
Anderson returned to the England team after being dropped from the playing XI
in the first Test. England have included both their senior fast bowlers in the
playing XI for Adelaide’s day-night fixture. On Wednesday, England announced
that Mark Wood would be dropped from the playing XI to make way for Anderson in
the XI. Captain Joe Root said he wants to keep Wood fresh as a five-Test series
demands proper rests for pacers. Wood had taken three wickets in the Brisbane
Test.

Meanwhile, Australia captain Pat Cummins
was ruled out of the second Test after coming in contact with a person who
tested positive for COVID-19. In his absence, Steve Smith is leading Australia
in the Test. Under the bio-security rules, Cummins now has to isolate himself
for seven days. Pacer Michael Neser replaced captain Cummins in Australia’s
playing XI.
