Karnataka CM warns of imposing complete lockdown amid COVID surge

Karnataka’s chief minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday warned people of “imposing a complete lockdown, if people don’t adhere to the restrictions imposed by the government.” 

Lockdown-like restrictions are already in effect in the state, which started from 9 pm on April 27 and will remain till 6 am on May 12.

The state reported over 49,000 COVID-19 cases and 328 deaths on Thursday. With increasing cases and deaths, the state government is mulling over a complete lockdown.

A meeting was held at CM Yediyurappa’s residence on Friday, in which state COVID-19 task force head and deputy chief minister CN Ashwath Narayan and deputy chief minister Laxman Savadi were also present.

Union Minister from Karnataka DV Sadananda Gowda and several other ministers in the state government have been in the favour of a complete lockdown to break the chain of COVID-19 cases in the state. 

Though, the Congress party has blamed the government’s carelessness for crumbling healthcare and rising COVID deaths in the state. A decision is yet to be taken on a complete lockdown but reports suggests that curbs will be announced in a day or two.
