Kerala polls: Udumbanchola constituency picked a CPM candidate in 2016

  • Apart from two assembly election victories by KEC and Congress, the seat has mostly been dominated by CPI and CPM in the past

The
Udumbanchola assembly constituency is currently being held by CPM MLA M.M Mani
who defeated Adv Senapathy Venu of the congress in 2016. The seat, one of
Kerala’s 140 constituencies, falls under the Idukki Lok Sabha constituency.

Congress
MP Dean Kuriakose currently holds the Idukki Lok Sabha seat, defeating Joice
George of the LDF in the 2019 General Elections.

Apart from
two short stints by KEC and the Congress, the Udumbanchola seat has been mainly
dominated by CPI and CPM candidates. From 1967 to 2016, the left parties have
managed to get a total of six assembly election victories in the seat, whereas
Congress got two and KEC got three in between.
