From the Ghost of Kyiv to Ukraine’s Tank Man, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has birthed heroes that offer a glimmer of hope in times of great torment.
An Indian man named Raunak Raval has become one of the knights in shining armours, saving a mother and an infant.
Entering war-hit Ukraine, Raval safely rescued the duo, along with several other students and children stranded in the country.
A video recorded by Raval displays him holding the infant. “Hi guys, so today, I went to Ukraine again because this two-month-old kid was not eating and he was not feeling good,” he says in the video.

Panning the camera towards the infant’s mother, Raval said, “And here is the mother of this kid.”
“Hello, I am the mother of this two-month-old baby and I am very grateful to Raunak ji because after my one call, he reached within 5 minutes. And he has been amazing, he has taken such good care of me and the baby,” said the mother.
She added, “He made us clear the immigration so quickly. I am really really grateful to him.”
Raval then panned the camera to another student he rescued from Kharkiv, Ukraine.
Uploaded on Thursday, the 2-minute-long video has garnered over 138,000 views on Twitter.

“Moving story from Poland. An Indian Raunak Raval risked his life to enter Ukraine to safely recover two-month-old Indian baby and the mother. Such positive stories of hope in times of despair are a great motivation. Kudos to such brave humane people who are helping strangers,” read the tweet.
Meanwhile, a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday urged students to “stay inside shelters and avoid unnecessary risks.” The statement comes as a response to the emotional pleas sent by Indian students stranded in Sumy, Ukraine.
