‘Let us stay united’: Now, Virat Kohli speaks on farmers’ protest following Rihanna’s tweet
- Virat Kohli was among the celebs who tweeted following pop singer Rihanna's six-worded tweet on farmers' protest
- Kohli's tweet was followed by similar-worded tweets by cricketers Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan
- "Vested interest groups trying to enforce their agenda," said the Indian government in its following response, without naming Rihanna
Cricketer Virat Kohli is the latest to join the politicians, Bollywood celebrities and cricketers, who spoke on farmers’ protest, following pop singer Rihanna’s six-worded tweet on the same.
“Let us all stay united in this hour of disagreements,” Kohli tweeted. “Farmers are an integral part of our country and I’m sure an amicable solution will be found between all parties to bring about peace and move forward together,” he added.
He used the hashtag #IndiaTogether, used by all the celebs and politicians, who tweeted on the issue.
Similar-worded tweets by Kohli’s fellow cricketers, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, followed.
However, their tweets were toned-down as compared to that by cricketing great Sachin Tendulkar, who linked the tweets by foreign celebs to India’s sovereignty.
“External forces can be spectators but not participants,” he said in the tweet.
”
why aren’t we talking about this?! #FarmersProtest,” Rihanna had tweeted late on Tuesday, which attracted both applause and condemnation.
Teen environmentalist Greta Thunberg, Meena Harris, a lawyer and niece of US Vice President Kamala Harris and talk show host Lilly Singh, too spoke in favour of the farmers’ protests.
