Due to COVID-19 surge, MP announces weekend lockdown in all urban areas
- The weekend lockdown in MP will come into effect at 6 pm on Friday and will be lifted at 6 am on Monday
- The announcement was made by MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan
- Appropriate action will be taken for the cities that are witnessing massive surge in COVID-19 cases, the CM said
In the wake of a massive surge in COVID-19, Madhya Pradesh on Thursday announced weekend lockdown in all its urban centres, ANI reported. The restriction will come into effect on Friday at 6 pm and will be lifted at 6 am on Monday, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.

The CM further said that for the cities that are witnessing a massive surge in COVID-19 cases, appropriate action will be taken after the meeting of the crisis management group. Containment zones will be made in big cities, Singh said.
On Wednesday, the state had announced a night curfew in all urban areas from 10 pm to 6 am from Thursday onwards. A seven-day complete lockdown has been imposed in Chhindwara district, starting from 8 pm on Thursday. On Wednesday, a two-day complete lockdown was imposed in Shajapur city.

As per a tally by news agency PTI, the state has recorded 318,014 COVID-19 cases and 4,086 deaths.
