“We are grateful to the people for this landslide victory. I have to start working for COVID-19 immediately. The swearing-in will be a low-key event because of the prevailing COVID-19 situation,” Mamata Banerjee said, according to ANI.

She accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of playing “dirty politics” and said it has lost the elections. As per the latest count, the saffron party has won a single seat and is leading in 77, which is much short of the majority mark of 77.

Although Banerjee’s party is all set to clinch party, the party supremo is herself trailing in Nandigram, where she contested against her protege-turned-rival Suvendu Adhikari. As per the latest count, she is trailing by about 10,000 votes.

“Don’t worry about Nandigram, I struggled for Nandigram because I fought a movement,” she said.

“It’s ok. Let the Nandigram people give whatever verdict they want,” Banerjee said, adding that she accepted that and didn’t mind the outcome.
