Bhagat Singh, one of the most valiant independence fighters, was killed in his prime, on March 23, 1931, at the age of 23. The day, known as Shaheed Diwas or Martyr’s Day, commemorates and pays tribute to this legend’s sacrifice and incredible display of courage.

Bhagat Singh is still regarded as one of the most significant and revolutionary individuals in Indian history, and he serves as a huge source of inspiration for people of all ages.

Because art imitates life, it was only inevitable that such a renowned character would be the most appropriate topic for film depiction. On the 91st anniversary of the patriot’s death, let us explore Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s life through seven films based on the renowned hero’s life.

SHAHEED-E-AZAD BHAGAT SINGH

This was the first film on him created 23 years after his death (1954). Mohammed Rafi’s song ‘Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna Ab Hamaare Dil Mein Hai’ from the film became an iconic success that is still remembered today.

SHAHEED BHAGAT SINGH

The second film based on the legend was released in 1963. In this KN Bansal-directed film, Shammi Kapoor plays the protagonist.

SHAHEED

In this 1965 film directed by S Ram Sharma, Manoj Kumar played Bhagat Singh. It won Best Feature Film in Hindi, the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration, and Best Story at the 13th National Awards. The film produced several timeless masterpieces performed by Lata-Mukesh-Rafi-Manna Dey, like Aye Watan, Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna, O Mera Rang De Basanti Chola, and Pagadi Sambhaal Jattaa, which are still sung today.

RANG DE BASANTI

This film aimed to instil patriotism in children by having them participate in depicting the life of liberation fighters in a documentary within the film. This Rakesh Omprakash Mehra film was a one-of-a-kind, thought-provoking magnum opus starring Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni, and British actress Alice Patten.

SHAHEED-E-AZAM

Three films based on Bhagat Singh’s life were released in 2002. Sukumar Nair’s Shaheed-E-Azam was the first of the three films to be released in 2002. Sonu Sood portrayed Bhagat Singh.

Bobby Deol played the titular character of Bhagat Singh in this film (2002). Guddu Dhanao’s film portrays the great accomplishments of the freedom warrior culminating in the time of his capital sentence by unfolding episodes from the legend’s life. Sunny Deol portrayed Chandrasekhar Azad, while Amrita Singh played Bhagat’s mother.

THE LEGEND OF BHAGAT SINGH

Two National honours were given to this Rajkumar Santhoshi film. In this 2002 patriotic film, Ajay Devgn played the title character.
