Former US President Donald Trump on Saturday called for the ousting of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Governor Gretchen Whitmer during a speech to more than 5,500 supporters in the state of Michigan.

“Seven months from now, you’re going to vote out Gretchen Whitmer. The stakes of this year’s midterm election could not be higher. I don’t know of a time we’ve ever felt so low, so dejected. And we have a president who has no idea what’s going on,” Trump said, calling for a change in the state government.

“We’re living through the most dangerous period of our lifetime,” the 75-year-old went on, as an excited crowd waved ‘Save America’ placards.

“The choice this November is very simple: If you want high crime, high prices, high taxes, high corruption and high incompetence, vote for radical Democrats. If you want a country that is strong, sovereign, solvent, safe and secure, you must vote for America-first Republicans,” the former President said, referring to the mid-term elections coming up in November this year.

Trump’s speech in Washington, Michigan, on Saturday night marked the former President’s first visit to the state since his election eve campaign in November 2020.

The 75-year-old is expected to back Kristina Karamo and Matt DePerno for the posts of Governor and Attorney General respectively in the primaries in Michigan, a state he had joked he would not visit if he lost.

However, Trump did end up losing the state to President Joe Biden 51%-48%, a result he since contested claiming election fraud.

Trump’s Saturday speech comes three days ahead of Michigan Republican nominating convention in Grand Rapids, where the final candidates for November’s elections will be decided.
