NEET-PG 2021 delayed by 4 months amid COVID-19 surge

  • Interns would be deployed in the COVID-management duties under faculty supervision

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday authorised the decision to delay the NEET-PG exam for at least four months in order to aid the already existing rank of healthcare workers fighting COVID-19, according to a statement by the Prime Minister’s office.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi authorises keys decisions to boost availability of medical personnel to fight COVID-19. NEET-PG Exam to be postponed for at least 4 months”, said the PMO.

The decision was taken in a review meeting amid country facing the deadliest second wave of COVID-19 pandemic. Over three lakh new infections are recorded every day from last two weeks. Hospitals in the national capital are facing shortage of medical oxygen.

In the meeting, the PM also decided that, “Final Year MBBS students can be utilised for teleconsultation and monitoring of mild COVID cases under the supervision of Faculty. BSc/GNM Qualified Nurses to be utilised in full-time COVID nursing duties under the supervision of Senior Doctors and Nurses.”

Medical personnel with 100 days of COVID-19 duty under their belt will be prioritised in upcoming government recruitments, added the PMO.

Interns, on the other hand, would be deployed in the COVID-management duties under faculty supervision.
