India hails golden girl Nikhat Zareen after CWG heroics

Indian netizens cannot seem to stop raving about the brilliant performance Nikhat Zareen put in at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in the women’s boxing lightweight division by winning gold. Hailing from Nizamabad, Telangana, the 26-year-old Zareen had won gold at the 2022 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. She has won every single bout at CWG 2022, including the final, with a 5-0 verdict in her favour.

The President of India congratulated the champion on her stunning victory, also saying that she is an inspiration to girls:

Netizens have also taken a jibe at MC Mary Kom, one of the greatest women boxers of all time, with whom Zareen shares a rivalry. Kom had reportedly said “Who is Nikhat Zareen?” three years ago. One Twitter user reminded us of the same, also adding that now no one will be asking such questions.

On her road to the CWG gold, Zareen defeated Wales’ Helen Jones in the quartefinals, England’s Stubley Alfia Savannah in the semifinals, and Northern Ireland’s Carly McNaul in the final.
Day 10 proved to be amazing for the Indian CWG 2022 contingent, with medals coming in boxing, 10,000m walking race, triple jump, and others. It remains to be seen whether the Indian women’s cricket team manages to win gold by defeating Australia in the final tonight.
