Olympian Sushil Kumar asks for TV in jail to remain updated on wrestling

Two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar asked the Tihar jail authorities to provide him with television so that he can stay updated on wrestling matches, PTI reports. Kumar is lodged at the Tihar jail till July 9 for his alleged involvement in a murder of a wrestler at Chhatrasal Stadium.

On June 25, Sushil Kumar, who is facing charges of murder, culpable homicide, and kidnapping, was produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate. His judicial custody was extended to July 9.
Kumar was shifted from Mandoli jail to Tihar jail No 2.
Kumar was arrested along with co-accused Ajay Kumar on May 23 from outer Delhi’s Mundka area. He and his associates allegedly assaulted wrestler Sagar Dhankar and two of his friends at Chhatrasal Stadium on the intervening night of May 4 and May 5 over a property dispute. Dhankar, 23, succumbed to injuries later.

According to officials, Sushil Kumar wrote a letter to the Tihar jail authorities and said that he was finding it difficult to pass time and therefore wanted a television set to get updates related to wrestling matches.
Sushil Kumar, 38, along with co-accused Ajay Kumar Sehrawat allegedly assaulted wrestler Sagar Dhankar and two of his friends at Chhatrasal Stadium late on May 4. Dhankar succumbed to injuries later. The two accused were arrested on May 23 from outer Delhi’s Mundka area. Kumar has undergone police and judicial custody of 10 and 23 days, respectively.

Sushil Kumar is deemed as the “main culprit and mastermind” of the murder by the police. The police confirm the presence of electronic evidence wherein he and his associates could be seen beating Dhankar.
