Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar filmed fellow wrestler’s murder to spread fear: Cops

Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar was arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder of a fellow wrestler. The police, on Sunday, said that he had a video recording of the incident to terrorize the wrestling circuit in the city. Kumar is under six days‘ custody at a Delhi court.
“Sushil had asked (his friend) Prince to make that video. He and his associates thrashed the victims like animals. He wanted to establish his fear in the wrestling community,” the police told the court, quoted NDTV.
Sushil Kumar, who was at large for nearly three weeks, was ultimately arrested on Sunday for his alleged involvement in the death of a 23-year-old wrestler at Chhatrasal Stadium, along with co-accused Ajay from outer Delhi’s Mundka area.
The Delhi Police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for someone who will tip-off information leading to the arrest of Sushil Kumar, who had since been on the run. Following this, another reward of Rs 50,000 was announced for Ajay Kumar’s arrest.
According to police, fellow wrestler Sagar Rana, 23, and two of his friends were assailed by Sushil Kumar and his associates on May 4 at the national capital’s Chhatrasal Stadium. All three had to be hospitalised because of the severe affliction. Soon enough, Rana succumbed to his injuries.
On May 18, Sushil Kumar had moved a court in Rohini, Delhi – to seek protection from arrest. Kumar claimed that the probe against him was biased and that no injuries caused to the victim were attributable to him. Nevertheless, the court, dismissed his anticipatory bail plea, saying he was “prima facie the main conspirator” and allegations against him were grave in nature.
The Delhi police have been raiding several places in the national capital and its surrounding cities, and neighbouring states as well – to arrest the 37-year-old champion wrestler and the two-time Olympic medalist. Sushil Kumar won a bronze medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a silver medal in the 2012 London Olympics.
