Polling on 11 Rajya Sabha seats to be held today

  • The voting will take place from 9 am to 4 pm
  • The counting of votes will take place from 5 pm on Monday
  • Out of 11, 10 Rajya Sabha seats are from Uttar Pradesh, one is from Uttarakhand

The polling on 11 Rajya Sabha seats will take place on Monday as
announced by the Election Commission. The polls are taking place as the seats will fall vacant after the completion of the two-year Rajya Sabha terms of the 11 MPs on those seats.

The voting will take place from 9 am to 4 pm and the counting of
votes will be held on the same day, 5 pm onwards. Out of the 11 seats on which
elections are taking place, 10 seats are from Uttar Pradesh while one is from
Uttarakhand.

The Rajya Sabha members, whose terms will be complete on
November 25, include Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Javed Ali Khan, Arun
Singh, PL Punia, Chandrapal Singh Yadav, Arun Singh, Neeraj Shekhar, Ravi
Prakash Verma, Rajaram, Ramgopal Yadav, and Veer Singh. These MPs represent Uttar
Pradesh in the Upper House.

The tenure of Raj Babbar, representing Uttarakhand, will also
come to an end on November 25. The election process will be completed before
November 11.

Reportedly, the BJP is supposed to take nine seats out of ten
from Uttar Pradesh of Rajya Sabha going for polls. For the first time in the
last four decades, the Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh are taking place
with the ruling party (BJP) having over 300 members in the Assembly.
