Royal Challengers Bangalore recorded their second victory of IPL 2020 defeating Mumbai Indians in a match which went down to Super Over. Chasing a mammoth target of 202 set by Bangalore, Mumbai looked lost early wickets. Captain Rohit Sharma (8), Quinton de Kock (14) and Surya Kumar Yadav (0) departed early without much on the scoreboard.

However, Ishan Kishan (99) and Kieron Pollard (60) kept Mumbai’s hopes alive in the match. The duo almost took their side home, but Kishan was caught in the deep trying to clear the boundary. Everyone expected Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma to send in Ishan Kishan to bat in the Super Over as the left-handed batsman was in a menacing form. However, it was Hardik Pandya who came out to bat along with Kieron Pollard.

During the post-match press meet, Rohit Sharma revealed why he decided against sending Ishan Kishan in the Super Over. The MI captain said that Kishan was drained and was not feeling fresh.

“He was drained out and was not comfortable. We thought we could send him in but he was not feeling fresh and Hardik is somebody we trust hitting the long-balls but it is not coming off,” news agency PTI quoted Rohit Sharma, as saying.

He also pointed out that Mumbai Indians failed to get a good start which added to the pressure on the middle order while chasing a big total.

“It is just that we couldn’t start well. I thought we could get that 200 with the batting power we had but we could not get the momentum in the first 6-7 overs,” Rohit Sharma said.

“We lost a few wickets there and could not get back. With Polly (Pollard) being there, anything can happen and with Ishan hitting the ball really well, we had that belief that we could get it,” he added.
