Republic Day 2022: What to expect from the parade?

According to a statement
released by the Indian Army on Saturday, this year’s Republic Day parade is set
to have 25 state tableaux, 17 military bands and 16 marching contingents.

The statement also
included the representation of the Indian Army by 14 mechanised columns, a mounted
column of cavalry, six marching contingents and a flypast by its aviation wing.
It also
mentioned the army’s mechanised columns that will feature a PT-76 tank, a Centurion
tank, an APC TOPAS armoured personnel carrier, a BMP-I infantry fighting vehicle,
and two MBT Arjun MK-I tanks and BMP-II infantry fighting vehicles.

The mechanised columns will also
include a 75/24 Pack howitzer, a PMS bridge-laying system, a HT-16 electronic
warfare system, a Tiger Cat missile system, and two Sarvatra bridge-laying
systems, Taran Shakti electronic warfare systems and Akash missile systems.

The six marching contingents will include the Rajput Regiment, Sikh Light Infantry, Assam Regiment, Jammy, Kashmir Light Infantry,
Parachute Regiment and Army Ordnance Corps Regiment of the Indian Army.

The statement added that one marching
contingent each of the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force will also take part
in RDP-2022.

Apart from the Indian Armed Forces,
the central paramilitary forces will feature five marching contingents of Border
Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indian Coast Guard
(ICG), Central Industrial Police Force (CIPF), and Sashastra Seeema Bal (SSB) participate
in the parade.

Gallantry award winners of two Param
Vir Chakra and one Ashok Chakra will also be a part of the parade.

Before the parade commences, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi
 will lay a wreath at the National War Memorial to pay homage to the
soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

RDP-2022 will commence at 10:30 am
and will conclude at 12 noon.

The parade will march on the traditional
route of Rajpath, from Vijay Chowk to the National Stadium, New Delhi.
