Republic Day: World leaders, top diplomats pour in greetings for India

Republic Day wishes for India started pouring in from beyond the borders on Wednesday and multiple world leaders and foreign dignitaries passed on their greetings. India is celebrating its 73rd Republic Day on January 26, 2022.

United States, France and Nepal were among many countries that wished India as the country conducted its national parade at New Delhi’s Rajpath. French Ambassador Emmanuel Lenain even used the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” and called India the “foremost strategic partner in Asia.”

He wrote in a social media post early on Wednesday, “My warmest greetings to our Indian friends as they come together to celebrate #RepublicDay. In this special year marking #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav, France wishes to congratulate India, our foremost strategic partner in Asia.

Nepal released a press release early on Wednesday to wish India on the 73rd Republic Day. The document said that Nepalese Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba “commended India’s remarkable achievements in socio-economic development and impressive advancements in technologies and innovation.”

Wishes from the United States came from two directions– the White House and Department of State Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs. 

The State Department division wrote in a social media post, “Happy 73rd Republic Day India! As millions of Indians celebrate their vibrant Constitution today, we are reminded of our nations’ shared democratic values and the strength of the U.S.-India strategic partnership.”

Meanwhile, United States President Joe Biden’s White House press secretary Jen Psaki recalled the time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Washington DC and said that the two countries are “destined to be stronger, closer and tighter, and it can benefit the whole world.”

Psaki added, “We join India, the world’s largest democracy in honouring Republic Day, the day that marks the adoption of India’s Constitution”, PTI reported.
