Shiv Sena’s senior leader Sanjay Raut on Monday said that the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) summon for his wife, Varsha Raut is an act of ‘cowardice’. The Rajya Sabha member further added that the notice is a mere piece of paper, as quoted by ANI.

ED issued a summon for December 29, calling in Sanjay Raut’s wife in relation to her role in the PMC Bank money laundering case. According to the officials, the summon has been issued under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Reacting to summon, Raut as quoted by ANI said,”Targeting women of a household is an act of cowardice. We are not scared of anyone and will respond accordingly. ED needed some papers and we have submitted them in time.”

The Shiv Sena MP pointed that the action by the Enforcement Directorate is a simple case of frustration of the Bharatiya Janata Party against him. According to PTI, Raut believes that his role in the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government last year didn’t go well with the central government.

“In the last one year, Sharad Pawar, Eknath Khadse and Pratap Sarnaik got notices and now you all are discussing my name. All these people are crucial for government formation in Maharashtra,” Sanjay Raut added.
