Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi will be chairing a meeting of Parliamentary Strategy Group to discuss party’s plan of action during the upcoming Parliament session. Apart from Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Ahmed Patel, the meeting will also be attended by leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma and others who were among the 23 leaders who signed a ‘dissent letter’ addressed to Sonia Gandhi.

Congress leaders are expected to discuss ways to corner the Modi government over various issues during the Parliament session starting September 14. The Congress has been questioning the Modi’s government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, border situation in Ladakh and the economic slowdown and is expected to firm up its stand on the issues during the Monsoon Session.

However, all eyes will on the ‘dissenters’ during the virtual meeting today. Senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Kapil Sibal were openly attacked by other party leaders for their stance of questioning the party leadership during last month’s Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting.

Days after the CWC meeting, Sonia Gandhi had appointed Gaurav Gogoi as the party’s deputy leader in the Lok Sabha and Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu as its whip in the Lower House. Both the leaders are considered close to Rahul Gandhi and the appointments were seen as an apparent message to senior leaders who had sought reforms in the party.
