Supreme Court appointed committee submits report on Centre’s farm laws
- The committee said that almost 85 farmer organisations have been consulted in order to find a solution
- The committee includes agricultural economists Anil Ghanvat, Ashok Gulati, and Pramod Joshi
- BKU president Bhupinder Singh Mann was also a part of the committee but resigned later
The Supreme Court-appointed three-member committee, on the Centre’s three new farm laws, on Wednesday submitted its report to the SC in a sealed cover, reported ANI.
In the report, the committee said that almost 85 farmer organisations have been consulted in order to find a solution regarding the matter.
The SC had formed the committee of agricultural economists Anil Ghanvat, Ashok Gulati, and Pramod Joshi on January 11 after placing the farm laws in hold, reported Live Mint. Bharatiya Kisan Union president Bhupinder Singh Mann was also a part of the committee but resigned later.
Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, have been camping near the borders of the capital demanding that the government repeals the three farm laws.
The three farm laws are Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
The farmers, who have been protesting since November 26, said that the new laws will do away with the safety of the minimum support price as well as the mandi (wholesale market) system.
