TMC’s Dibyendu Adhikari says, ‘Nandigram’s communal harmony may be disrupted’

In a letter to East Midnapore’s District Magistrate (DM) on Thursday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Dibyendu Adhikari cautioned that due to the political situation in Nandigram, the communal harmony in the area might be disrupted, ANI reported. The TMC MP’s brother, Suvendu, was Bhartiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate for the Nandigram Assembly seat, where polling took place on Thursday.

In his letter, Dibyendu asked the DM and East Midnapore’s District Election Officer to take “precautionary measures in advance.”
Suvendu, who won the seat in 2016 as a TMC member, joined the BJP in the run-up to the Assembly elections in West Bengal. He contested against TMC chief and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who visited Nandigram on Thursday, criticised the Election Commission and alleged ruckus in polls. She even dialed Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar but didn’t disclose the details of the conversation.
West Bengal Assembly elections are being held in eight phases, from March 27 till April 29. Votes will be counted on May 2.
