‘Toolkit’ just an ‘information pack’, not intended to incite violence: Nikita Jacob

Lawyer-activist Nikita Jacob, who is facing arrest for her role in creating a digital ‘toolkit’ in support of the farmers’ protest, says she has not shared any information with Swedish environmentalist Greta Thunberg while stating that the document was an “informational pack” and not intended to incite violence. 

In her statement to the Delhi Police, Jacob clarified that she garnered support for the farmers’ movement on social media and shared details with global activists but underscored there was nothing illegal about what she did, according to the Hindustan Times.

“The information contained in the toolkit does not in any manner incite riots or violence and is simply an information pack with information from various sources… No weapons, no violence, no mention of anything remotely violent in the toolkit or any of our communication,” the Mumbai-based lawyer said. 

She said that the ‘toolkit’ aims to educate those interested in learning about the protest by the farmers, their apprehensions regarding the farm laws and the current situation, besides containing other public information and links for similar campaigns.

Jacob told the Delhi Police that creating an informational kit for an ongoing movement was “natural and perfectly legal in a democracy guarded by a constitution as strong as ours”. 

30-year-old Jacob, along with Beed engineer Shantanu Muluk, is facing a non-bailable warrant, issued by a Delhi court, and are currently absconding.

The Delhi Police says they attended a Zoom meeting organised by pro-Khalistani group Poetic Justice Foundation and created the ‘toolkit’ along with 22-year-old Ravi, who has since been arrested.

Jacob, a volunteer for global environmental movement Extinction Rebellion (XR), said XR India volunteers aimed to create the ‘toolkit’ to give a simplified breakdown of the whole picture to the international audience. 

She said in her statement that the draft document – which she said primarily focused on the farm issues, the right to express dissent and the larger democracy – was shared on XR WhatsApp group and was finalised on January 22. 

One of XR’s volunteer partner, Fridays for Future, sought Greta Thunberg’s solidarity with the protest and shared the document with her.
