Top Jaish commander Sajjad Afghani among 2 terrorists killed in Shopian encounter

  • The security forces launched the operation in the Shopian district on Saturday 
  • The Army received the inputs that few terrorists were hiding in the area.
  • Another terrorist, Jahangir Ahmad Wani, was killed in the gunfight on Sunday

Top Jaish-e-Mohammed commander Sajjad Afghani was killed in an encounter on Monday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, reports ANI. The encounter was led by Indian Army, the state police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Rawalpora in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. 

The security forces had launched a search operation in Shopian on Saturday, after they received inputs that some terrorists were hiding in the area, ANI reported.

On Sunday, the forces had killed another terrorist, Jahangir Ahmad Wani, and recovered US-made M4 Carbine and armour-piercing rounds from the site, ANI quoted the police as saying. 

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar congratulated the Shopian police and security forces on the operation.

On Wednesday, Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have busted a module of terror outfit JeM by arresting four men, who were allegedly planning to carry out a car-bomb attack on security forces in Kashmir’s Pampore.
