Two-time Trinamool Congress MLA Dipak Haldar resigns from party

Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly election 2021, two-time MLA Dipak Haldar has resigned from Trinamool Congrees, reports news agency PTI. He alleged that he was not allowed to
work freely, reports PTI.

Haldar, however, remained reticent about joining the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

“I am a
two-time MLA. But, since 2017, I am not allowed to work properly for the
masses. No action has been taken despite informing the party and I am not given any information on TMC programmes.” PTI qouted Haldar as saying.

While the announcement comes amid a mass exodus of TMC leaders from the party, including prominent faces like Suvendu Adhikari and Rajib Banerjee, Haldar’s resignation, however, doesn’t come as a surprise since the Diamond Harbour MLA has been quite eloquent about his dissatisfaction with the party leadership since last two months.

Haldar, who is a two time MLA from West Bengal’s Diamond Harbour, is believed to be closely associated with now of BJP leader Sovan Chatterjee and recently met the latter at his residence in South Kolkata.

 For those unversed, Sovan Chatterjee left TMC in August 2019 to join the saffron camp.

Notably, in 2015, Haldar
was suspended from the TMC following his alleged involvement in a clash between
rival factions of the party’s students’ front in a district’s college but was
reinstated in the party later.

Recently, ex-TMC leader Rajib Banerjee along with several other party leaders joined BJP on Friday leaving the Mamata camp at the brink of desertion.
