UK clears extradition of Nirav Modi to India, accused in 13000 crore PNB scam

United Kingdom's Home Department has approved the extradition of fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi, PTI reported quoting officials.

United Kingdom’s Home Department has approved the extradition of fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi, PTI reported quoting officials. Modi, who is accused to have defrauded the Punjab National Bank of nearly Rs 13,000 crores, was cleared for extradition to India by a UK judge on February 25.

Westminster Magistrate’s Court Judge Samuel Gooze said the Barrack 12 at Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai will be fit for Modi. The court’s findings were sent to the Home Department, which approved the extradition. 

The billionaire, who is accused to have perpetrated the fraud in collusion with his uncle Mehul Choksi, fled India in 2018.
