Union Budget 2021: Over Rs 1.66 lakh crore allotted to Home Ministry, Rs 3700 crore for census-related works

  • Rs 30,757 crore has been allocated to Jammu and Kashmir and Rs 5,958 crore for Ladakh
  • Rs 1,03,802.52 crore has been allocated for the central armed police forces like the CRPF, BSF, CISF
  • Rs 3,768.28 crore was made available for census operations

The Centre, on Monday, allotted Rs 1,66,547 crore to the Ministry of Home Affairs for the 2021-22 fiscal year as the majority of funds went to the police forces and census related works, reported PTI.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in her budget presentation that Rs 30,757 crore has been allocated to Jammu and Kashmir and Rs 5,958 crore for Ladakh, the new Union Territories.

A total of Rs 1,03,802.52 crore has been allocated for the central armed police forces like the CRPF, BSF, CISF, while Rs 3,768.28 crore was made available for census operations.

While central sector schemes and projects of the MHA got Rs 1,641.12 crore, disaster management received  Rs 481.61 crore. 

The Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Lakshasweep and Puducherry have been allocated Rs 5,317.41 crore, Rs 4,661.12 crore, Rs 1,440.56 crore and  Rs 1,729.79 crore respectively. Both Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu have been allocated Rs 2,204.59 crore. 

Apart from these,  a total outlay of Rs 4.78 lakh crore was allocated for the defence sector.  Out of the Rs 4. 78 lakh crore, Rs 1.35 lakh crore is the capital outlay, and Rs 2.27 lakh crore is the revenue head. Additionally, Rs 1.15 lakh crore has been allocated for pensions.
