Unrecognisable: Lara Dutta’s Indira Gandhi avatar in ‘Bell Bottom’ lauded
- Lara Dutta will play former PM Indira Gandhi in 'Bell Bottom'
- Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor and Huma Qureshi also star in the film
- The film will be released on August 19
Ever since the trailer of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bell Bottom’ dropped on Tuesday, all that social media users are talking about is actor Lara Dutta’s look in the spy-thriller. Dutta, a former Miss Universe, will be seen playing India’s first woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film.
“Unrecognisable,” a Twitter user described Lara Dutta’s look in the film. Some users praised the makeup artists, who managed to pull off a dramatic transformation and make the 46-year-old actor look just like Gandhi.
Here are some reactions:
Speaking of her character, Lara said, “Okay, so you did see me in the trailer. I’m playing Mrs Indira Gandhi in the film. That’s me. All it took was a call and they said that Lara this film is being made and we are casting for Indira Gandhi’s role. That is all it took, before I even heard the script. But yes, of course, there is a great responsibility when you’re portraying somebody who is an iconic figure like her.”

“As you all know that the film deals with a hijack situation that happened during her tenure. Given the dramatic events that were unfolding, she was somebody who was extremely centred and not really prone to any dramatics. So it was important to portray her in that form. I had a great time. There was a lot of homework and research that went behind it. But it was an opportunity of a lifetime that I’m thankful for,” she added.

‘Bell Bottom’ is set in 1984 and is inspired by the hijacking events that took place in India in the period.
The film also stars Akshay Kumar in the lead along with Vaani Kapoor and Huma Qureshi. It will hit the big screen on August 19 in 2D and 3D formats.
