Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has constituted a three-member SIT (Special Investigation Team) to probe the Hathras gangrape case. The team will submit the report within seven days, the CM said on Twitter.

He has also directed for the trial to be conducted in a fast-track court.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the UP CM on Wednesday and said strictest action should be taken against the culprits, Yogi Adityanath said on Twitter.

A 19-year old Dalit woman was gang-raped at UP’s Hathras on September 14.

The four accused had tried to strangle her to death as she resisted their rape attempt and in the process, she had also ended up biting her tongue and suffering a severe cut on it, PTI reported. The accused have been arrested.

The woman was admitted to Aligarh Muslim University’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital.

As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital where she breathed her last on Tuesday.

As the news of her demise spread, protests broke out in the national capital and Hathras, where people expressed anguish and demanded justice for the woman.
