UP teen dies after alleged police thrashing for violating COVID curfew

A 17-year-old boy died on Friday in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao after he was allegedly beaten up by the police for violating the coronavirus-induced curfew, reports PTI quoting his family. A FIR has been filed against the police personnel involved and an investigation has been launched.

The incident took place in the Bhatpuri locality in the Bangarmau area, where the teen was selling vegetables outside his home. His family claimed that a constable caught him for violating the corona curfew and beat him with a stick.
He was then brought to the police station, where he was again thrashed, as per the media report. After his condition deteriorated, he was taken to a hospital, where he died, the family claimed.
In a statement, the police said that a constable was suspended, the term of a home guard suspended, an FIR registered against the police personnel and a probe was launched.

A corona curfew has been imposed in Uttar Pradesh till 7 am on May 24 to rein in the spread of coronavirus.
