UP elections 2022: BJP names candidates for 91 more seats

  • Polls in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases beginning February 10
  • The BSP supremo also cautioned the people against their designs
  • CM Yogi Adityanath had formed the Vahini after falling out with the BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday declared candidates for 91 more constituencies for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2022. While Minister Siddharth Nath Singh will contest from Allahabad West, UP CM’s media advisor Shalabh Mani Tripathi got a ticket from Deoria.However, the saffron party is yet to declare a candidate from the Lucknow Cantonment seat, where a number of contenders have emerged.

Commenting on the new candidate list, UP CM Yogi Adityanath said, “Hearty congratulations to all the BJP candidates declared today for the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Elections-2022. All of you are the followers of the mantra ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’. ‘Jan Vishwas’ is your capital. Victory is sure for all of you.”

After the BJP declared Adityanath’s candidature from the Gorakhpur Urban constituency, members of the youth organisation got into action, and have been fanning out up to booth level to garner support for him.

Working in coordination with local BJP leaders, Vahini members have been using social media too to highlight the development works of the government under “Maharaj ji” (as it refers to Yogi Adityanath).

The organisation that came into existence in 2002 had quickly gained prominence, particular in Gorakhpur, with a large number of youths becoming its part. Adityanath had formed the Vahini after falling out with the BJP.

The outfit has served as a power machine for Adityanath to influence poll outcomes in the assembly constituencies in the district.

Meanwhile, BSP president Mayawati on Friday accused the BJP and Samajwadi Party of colluding to give a communal and casteist colour to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

In a tweet, the BSP supremo also cautioned the people against their designs.

“The way religion and caste politics dominate in the UP assembly elections and the media is also full of such news, it seem that all this is happening as SP and BJP are colluding to give the elections colour of hatred on Hindu-Muslim and casteist lines. People need to remain alert,” the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said.

Polls in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases beginning February 10.
