Delhi Capitals opening batsman Prithvi Shaw said that he was worried about his technique after being dropped from the Test squad during India’s tour Australia last year. But, he soon made a comeback with good form in domestic cricket, because of a few changes that he made in his game.
The 21-year-old was dropped after failing twice in the opening Test match at Adelaide in December last year. However, the Mumbai batsman came into limelight after scoring 827 runs in just eight matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

He continued that form in the Indian Premier League (IPL), scoring a whopping 72 runs off 38 balls in DC’s first match against Chennai Super Kings. Shaw said in a post-match conference, “After getting dropped from the Test side after the first Test in Australia, I started worrying about my technique on why I was getting bowled. Even if it was a minor mistake, I wanted to minimize that. I started working on it there itself,” after win over Punjab Kings on Sunday.
In the encounter against Punjab Kings on Sunday, he hit 32 off 17 balls, scoring three fours and two sixes. “I worked on my initial movement, getting more stable and more ready before the bowler has bowled,” he added.
Shaw said that after coming back from Australia, he made few technical changes in the game after working with his coaches Prashant Shetty and Pravin Amre before playing domestic cricket and it went well for him.

“I didn’t get a lot of practice for IPL, the T20 format. But I got good practice sessions with Ricky Ponting sir, Pravin Amre sir and Prashant Shetty sir,” he added.
Talking about head coach Ricky Ponting, he said that Ponting have him the freedom to express himself. Shaw added, “He (Ponting) just says go there and play freely without thinking a lot of things. Partnerships are quite important in the first six overs.”
“The first six overs are crucial in this kind of wicket which is not easy to bat on in the powerplay.” On Sunday, Shikhar Dhawan struck a swashbuckling 92 as Delhi Capitals made short work of a huge 196-run target for a six-wicket win over Punjab Kings.
