Debutant Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur hit maiden Test half-centuries on Sunday to take India to a fighting position against Australia in the ongoing fourth Test at Gabba.

Justifying his election after Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja’s injuries, Sundar not only scored a half-century but also picked up three wickets in the first innings.

Sunday’s innings has now made Sundar the second Indian to score fifty-plus runs and take three wickets on Test debut.

Thakur, on the other hand, made 67 runs and build a significant 100-plus run partnership with Sundar to take India past the 300-mark.

Following Rishabh Pant’s dismissal for 23, India was struggling at 186/6. However, the Australian pace attack that pierced through the top and middle-order, failed to break the Thakur-Sundar partnership as they made scoring runs on the pitch look easy with effortless stroke plays.
