Mohan Sanjibhai Delkar, who was found dead in a Mumbai hotel on Monday, was a seven-term Lok Sabha member. The 58-year-old politician was an Independent MP from the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Union Territory. He was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha in May 2019. Delkar’s dead body was found at the sea-facing hotel in south Mumbai’s Marine Drive area, reported PTI quoting a police official.

Delkar was a Congress candidate and won the 1989, 1991 and 1996 elections. He won the 1998 election as a BJP candidate. Delkar rejoined the Congress and was defeated in 2009 and 2014. He was an advocate for tribal rights.

The police official on Monday said that Delkar has left a suicide note written in Gujarati. He confirmed that an accidental death report has been registered based on preliminary information. The cause of death will be obtained in the autopsy, he added.

Delkar was also a member of the Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice and a member of the Consultative Committee, Ministry of Home Affairs of the Lower House.
