What the duck, Faf? As RCB captain falls vs Lucknow, fans erupt in dismay

Faf du Plessis, the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper, was dismissed for a golden duck against the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022 eliminator at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Wednesday. 

After troubling Virat Kohli with outside-off length balls, Mohsin Khan went for three runs. Faf du Plessis was on strike. The LSG bowler then went for an around off delivery that swung away from the batter, who poked at it only to find an outside edge. KL Rahul took an easy catch behind the stumps.

Du Plessis, who was dismissed without scoring, left his team reeling at 4/1. With the golden duck, the South African became the sixth IPL captain to record the score in playoffs. Shane Warne (2008), Anil Kumble (2009), Daniel Vettori (2011), MS Dhoni (2015), Rohit Sharma (2020) are the others. 

Reacting to du Plessis’ duck, one Twitter user wrote “What the duck Faf.”

“Faf is CSK blood, proving again and again over the years ?” another one tweeted.

“Faf holds the record of winning most POTM awards in IPL playoffs. But he scored a duck today, effects of joining the bunch of ch0kers?” a third one tweeted.

Meanwhile, Rajat Patidar, who comes in at No 3, slammed a half-century in 28 balls. A short and quick outside off ball did Virat Kohli. The former RCB skipper looked to play the upper cut and found Mohsin Khan at third man. He scored 25 runs off 24 balls with the help of two boundaries. Krunal Pandya got rid of hard-hitting Glenn Maxwell. 

After being put to bat, RCB were reduced to 92/3 after 11 overs.
