Who is Dhan Singh Rawat, frontrunner to possibly replace former Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat

Upon Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat’s
resignation on Tuesday, state minister Dhan Singh Rawat has emerged as a
potential frontrunner to assume the designation of Chief Minister in the state,
alongside Ajay Bhatt and Anil Bulani, two other BJP Members of the Parliament
from Uttarakhand.

Dhan Singh Rawat was born on October 7, 1972.

 A native of the Pauri
Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, Rawat is an MLA in the Srinagar Legislative
Assembly, as well as being the Minister of State (Independent Charge).

Affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the
ideological parent body of the BJP, Rawat entered the state legislature in 2017
for the first time after failing to get elected in 2012 from the Srinagar Garhwal
constituency. He has since served as MoS, looking after higher education,
cooperatives, dairy development amidst other sectors in the state.

He has a double MA degree as well as a PhD in Political
Science.

The central leadership of BJP recently sent two of its
national observers, party vice president Raman Singh and general secretary
Dushyant Kumar Gautam to Uttarakhand for mapping the political situation in the
state.

Trivendra Singh Rawat, the former Chief Minister, was elected
in the post in 2002, which also marked Uttarakhand’s first assembly election.
