Khushdil Shah is a Pakistani middle-order batter and part of the the Pakistan squad for the Asia Cup 2022. The left-handed batter started the opening game against India but was unable to make a mark in the game after Hardik Pandya sent him back to the pavilion before he could even get comfortable on the crease. He was dismissed for 2 as Pakistan struggled to build towards a competitive total, and ended up losing to India eventually.

Who is Khushdil Shah?

Khushdil Shah was born on February 7, 1995, in Bannu, a city located on the Kurram river in Pakistan’s North-West Frontier Province – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He made his international debut for Pakistan in a T20I match against Australia in Perth on November 8, 2019. Australia hammered Pakistan and registered a victory by 10 wickets after restricting the visitors to 106/8, with Shah contributing eight runs to the total.

Since then, Shah has gone on to play 15 T20Is, scoring 225 runs and maintaining a batting average of 25.00 in the process. His best score in the format is an undefeated 36, which he scored against Zimbabwe on November 10, 2019.

He made his ODI debut for Pakistan against Zimbabwe on November 3, 2020, in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. It was a thrilling match, with Pakistan failing to overhaul Zimbabwe’s 278 runs, but managing to tie the game. Zimbabwe won the match via the one-over eliminator. Shah scored 33 runs in the game, and also took the vital catch of half-centurion Brendan Taylor.

Shah has since represented Pakistan in 10 ODIs, scoring 199 runs at an average of 33.16 at the time of writing this article. His career-best ODI score was an undefeated 41 against the West Indies in Multan on June 8, 2022.

Domestically, he plays for the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and represents Southern Punjab in first-class cricket.
