Who is Midde Roopa, Kadapa girl to speak in parliament on Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri?

Midde Roopa will speak in the Parliament Central Hall about Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on Sunday, October 2, which is Gandhi Jayanti. 

Around 35 youngsters have been selected for the programme. Roopa got the opportunity after she secured fourth rank in a State-level competition conducted by Nehru Yuva Kendra. The theme of the contest was the life of Mahatma Gandhi. The top three have already given their speeches in March.

Who is Midde Roopa?

Midde Roopa is a civil services aspirant from the Koduru village in Railway Kondapuram mandal. She is 21 years old. 

Yuva Kendra district officer K Manikanta said Roopa graduated from SKR Women’s Degree College in Kadapa this year. She is the eldest daughter of Midde Satyanarayana and Ramadevi.

Manikanta added that she participated in several elocution competitions organised by Yuva Kendra. The district-level National Youth Parliament competition was held online on February 19, 2022. 

“Among the total 30 participants from four Rayalaseema districts, Roopa got the first place. She took part in the State-level competition and secured fourth place,” Manikanta said.

“I could perform well in academics and extracurricular activities like dance and singing due to the encouragement of my parents. I have even participated in several sports events and also enrolled as an NCC cadet and an NSS volunteer and took part in Republic Day parades,” Roopa told TNIE.

Meanwhile, days ahead of his birth anniversary, Mahatma Gandhi made a special appearance at the United Nations. International Day of Non-Violence is observed on October 2.

According to the General Assembly resolution of June 2007, which established the commemoration, the day is an occasion to “disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness”.
