Danish Siddiqui, an Indian journalist, was killed in Afghanistan recently while covering the conflict between the Taliban troops and Afghan armed forces. 

Siddiqui had been covering the erupting situation in the Kandahar region over the last few days.

Siddiqui was based out of Mumbai and had also been a recipient of the Pulitzer Award as part of the photography team of Reuters news agency, according to reports from PTI.

He kicked off his career as a journalist as a news correspondent for television but later jumped over to photojournalism after he started working with Reuters as an intern in 2010.

Siddiqui graduated from Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia after pursuing Economics. He also got certified from the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre in 2007 in Mass Communication. 

Siddiqui, in his early 40s, was killed during clashes in Spin Boldak district in Kandahar, Tolo News quoted sources as saying.This comes as the Taliban captured Spin Boldak district in Kandahar this week. Fierce fighting has been underway in Kandahar, especially in Spin Boldak, for the last few days.

Farid Mamundzay, Afghanistan’s Ambassador to India, wrote on Twitter on Friday, “Deeply disturbed by the sad news of the killing of a friend, Danish Seddiqi in Kandahar last night (Thursday). The Indian Journalist and winner of the Pulitzer Prize was embedded with Afghan security forces”,  PTI reported.
