Sudhir Suri, a Shiv Sena leader, was shot in Amritsar, Punjab. The incident occurred outside a temple in the city. Shiv Sena leaders were demonstrating outside the temple when someone from the crowd shot Suri.

Shiv Sena leaders staged a sit-in protest against temple authorities after some shattered statues were discovered amid rubbish outside the temple grounds.

Who was Sudhir Suri?

Sudhir Suri was the president of Shiv Sena (Taksali). 

In 2017, Suri set fire to an image of Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale. After police received reports, Suri was taken into custody in his home in Shivala.

Suri was arrested in 2020 after a roughly 1,300-kilometer manhunt that concluded in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly demeaning women and instigating hostility amongst different tribes.

Suri was arrested in 2021 after SGPC member Bhai Manjit Singh and Damdami Taksal leaders filed a complaint with the police under Sections 295A, 153A, and 506 of the IPC and Section 67B of the IT Act.

According to reports, the Shiv Sena leader was imprisoned in Ropar. Damdami Taksal’s Ranjit Singh urged that Suri’s collaborators, including Arun Kumar Bhopa and others, be arrested as well.

Suri, who didn’t participate in the election, was most known for his caustic — and reportedly sectarian social media video remarks directed at some Sikh organisations and Khalistan supporters in particular..

Suri was shot dead on November 4, 2022. A man named Sandeep Singh shot Suri while he was sitting on a dharna outside an Amritsar shrine.

The incident occurred outside Gopal Mandir on Majitha Road, one of the busiest streets in the city, where Suri and other party leaders were protesting.

Suri was shot more than five times by the assailant. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. Suri had been on the hit list of various mafias for a long time and was being guarded by roughly eight Punjab Police officers.
