The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has called for a one day Bharat bandh on Friday (February 26) demanding a review of the Goods and Services Tax system. The traders claim that the provisions are confusing, retrograde and draconian. CAIT claimed that an estimated 40,000 traders’ associations across the country have shown their support.

However, the banking sectors will not be hit by the Bharat bandh, kept by the traders’ organisation as the protest is only limited to trade and transportation units.

The bandh will also be backed by All India Transporters Welfare Association, which will hold a ‘chakka jam’, CAIT Secretary-General Praveen Khandelwal said.

Khandelwal said that since the taxation system has been brought, almost 950 amendments have been made so far. Issues related to glitches in the portal is among the major loopholes in the tax regime, he said.
