India is home to a variety of cultures and striking monuments that each tell a story. The Taj Mahal, situated in the heart of Agra, is a historic structure built on the roots of love by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
While an old myth suggests that the ruler chopped off the hands of workers who built the monument in order to avoid any replication, several people across the world have used the Taj Mahal as an inspiration to construct look-alikes.
1. Taj in China
Also known as the Window to the World, this Taj is located at a theme park in the city of Shenzhen. The theme park also features replicas of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Eiffel Tower.
2. Taj Arabia In Dubai
Known for its glamour, Dubai took inspiration from the Taj Mahal and added its own sparkly twist to it. Situated in the Mughal Garden area, Taj Arabia is a luxurious 20-storeyed hotel comprising over 300 rooms, several restaurants and a gift shop.

3. Taj In Bangladesh
Built by Bangladeshi director Ahsanullah Moni, this Taj Mahal replica is located in the capital city of Dhaka. Moni was struck by the idea of constructing the Taj Mahal in his home country after he visited the monument in India for the first time.

4. Humayun’s Tomb, Delhi
Built several years before the Taj Mahal, Humayun’s Tomb was the inspiration to construct the layout of Shah Jahan’s pearly white structure. While Humayun’s Tomb is built in red sandstone, its layout bears a resemblance to the Taj Mahal.

5. Bibi ka Maqbara, Aurangabad
Built by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s son, Prince Azam Khan, this replica is also known as the poor man’s Taj Mahal. Bibi ka Maqbara was built by Khan as a tribute to Rabia-ud-Daurani, his mother.
