The Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 got underway on Friday with a dazzling opening ceremony at the Beijing National Stadium. Lasting about 100 minutes, the ceremony features an estimated 3,000 performers – 95% of whom are teenagers, state media said.

Director Zhang Yimou, who directed the opening ceremony for the 2008 Summer Olympics, is back at the helm this time around. He said that the ceremony won’t be as big as 14 years ago, which included 15,000 performers.
