This Karnataka thief believes in having his gold heist and eating it too, literally. 

Soon after robbing a jewellery shop on Saturday in Kasaba village of Sullia taluk in Dakshina Kannada, police cornered the culprit. With no escape route left, the thief, Shibu, swallowed the loot.

%u201CIt was the modus operandi of this habitual offender. He used to keep a part of a stolen booty in his stomach to make it safe and to avoid recovery if caught. Normally, police check pockets and houses when caught. We won%u2019t check stomach,%u201D said MR Harish, PSI, Sullian police station, according to newindianexpress.com.

The 48-year-old accused, who hails from Kerala’s Thrissur, admitted that he swallowed the ornaments along with ice cream. 

News agency PTI quoted police sources as saying that the accused developed severe abdominal pain and was taken to a hospital on Saturday.

During an X-ray scan, he was found to have the jewels in his intestine and was admitted for observation.

On Monday, the ornaments, mostly rings and ear-studs weighing 35 gm, were recovered through a surgical procedure, the sources added.

The accused was discharged and later sent to judicial custody, the sources said.
