How Pokemon helped a UK woman shed her introverted self

Lisa Courtney, the woman who possesses the world’s largest collection of Pokemon merchandise agreed that even after 25 years, the brand is still thriving because it appeals to so many different kinds of people. The franchise first started in 1996 with two games – Pokemon Red and Blue in Japan, later expanded into video games, television, movies, manga, and toys.

In 2016, Courtney was added to the Guinness Book of World Record for having the largest collection of Pokemon memorabilia. At that time, she had 17,127 items. Today, it is around 21,000.

Lisa had first come across Pokemon when she had read about it in the Nintendo magazine and it was love at first sight for her. Talking about the importance of Pokemon in her life, she said that when she was bullied in school, coming back home to Pokemon used to be such a huge relief for her.

Even after growing up, Pokemon helped her introverted-self in opening up. She also said that she met some of her best friends through the show.

The superfan has been collecting Pokemon-themed posters, plush toys, action figures, and even toilet paper. She even went to Japan for her craze for Pokemon but ended up loving the country and the culture as well.

Pokemon recently completed 25 years and on the occasion announced the arrival of two upcoming games – Brilliant Diamond and Shinning Pearl.
