ICC U-19 World Cup Semifinal: How India and Australia fare against each other

  • Australia’s track record against India in the ICC U-19 World Cup is very poor
  • India faced Australia three times and they won on all these occasions
  • The last time both sides met in the semi-final, India defeated Australia by 170 runs

India are set to take on Australia in the second
semi-final of the ICC U-19 World Cup at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua
on Wednesday. This will be the third time India will face Australia in the U-19
World Cup. The Indian colts have so far been unbeaten in the tournament while
Australia had suffered a defeat against Sri Lanka in their final group match. In the
first semi-final, England defeated Afghanistan to reach the final.

Ahead of the second semi-final, Opoyi takes a look at
how the Indian boys have fared against Australia in previous meetings at the ICC U-19 World Cup.

India vs Australia, 2000 U-19 World Semi-Final,
Colombo

Under the leadership of star captain Mohammad Kaif,
India took on an Australian team, comprising the likes of Shane Watson, Shaun
Marsh and Mitchell Johnson in the semi-final of the 2000 U-19 World Cup.

India posted 284 for 6 and handed Australia a massive
170 runs defeat.

India vs Australia, 2012 U-19 World Cup Final,
Townsville

Captain Unmukt Chand led India to a thrilling victory
over Australia in the final of the 2012 U-19 World Cup in Townsville. After
restricting Australia to a total of 225/8, India, on the back of captain
Unmukt Chand’s century, won the match 6 wickets and went on to lift their third
U-19 World Cup title.

India vs Australia, 2018 U-19 World Cup Final, Mount
Maunganui

In 2018, Indian colts won the U-19 World Cup for a
record fourth time after beating Australia in the summit clash of the
tournament at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

After electing to bat first, Australia were bowled out
for 216 by the Prithvi Shaw-led Team India.

In reply, India chased down the target with 8 wickets
to spare, thanks largely to Manjot Kalra’s unbeaten knock of 101.

India vs Australia, 2020 U-19 World Cup Quarter-Final
1, Potchefstroom

India, led by Priyam Garg, took on Australia in the
first quarter-final in Potchefstroom, with a place in the final at stake.

Put in to bat first, India had post 233 for nine, on
the back of half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Atharva Ankolekar.

Australia, in reply, were bowled out for 159.

However, in the final, India were beaten by a spirited
Bangladesh side led by Akbar Ali.
