Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris on Sunday denounced President Donald Trump’s decision to nominate Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. She said that the President wants to “destroy the Affordable Care Act” and access to abortion.

“From day one, President Trump made clear that he had a litmus test for Supreme Court Justices – destroy the Affordable Care Act’s protections for people with preexisting conditions and overturn our right to make our own health care decisions,” Harris said in a statement.

Opposing the nomination, she also said that the selection would move the court further right for a generation and harm millions of Americans.

Judge Amy Coney Barrett, was nominated on Saturday to the US Supreme Court. A practising Catholic, Barrett is personally opposed to abortion, one of the key issues dominating the cultural divide in the United States.

As a federal appeals court judge since 2017, she has taken positions backing gun rights and against migrants, women seeking abortions and former president Barack Obama’s signature healthcare reform that Republicans have been trying to dismantle for years.
